Evelyn Valdez Martinez

Fine Art

Evelyn first studied art under the tutelage of oil painter, William Johnson, who in turn, took his training with such notable greats as Frank J. Rielly and George Bridgeman, at the Art Students League of New York. Evelyn has also studied oil painting at the Art students League of Denver with Kim English, Kevin Weckbach, and Quang Ho; as well as with other artists of national and international reputation; including workshops with Richard Schmid, Ramon Kelley and Ned Jacob. She has studied pastel painting with Daniel Greene and Bruce Gomez.

Evelyn has been an active member of the Art Students League of Denver for over eighteen years, and served on their Board of Directors. She was also an officer of the Colorado Artists Association for eight years.

Being an avid admirer of the work of the spanish painter, Joaquin Sorolla; she has presented lectures on his life and works at The Pueblo Fine Arts Center in Pueblo, Colorado, as well as at the Art Students League of Denver.

Until recently her studio was located at the Art Students League of Denver. She is currently at her new studio - gallery: Art on Monaco, located at 6450 East Colfax Avenue in Denver, Colorado. Her teaching comes directly from the old school of using the "Principles of Art" and is based on the teaching methods of The Art Students League of New York, of Joaquin Sorolla, John Singer Sargent and Richard Schmid.

For several years Evelyn  worked in the commercial art field doing book covers and promotional art for authors who write for Dell and Zebra. Her illustrations also appeared in their magazine publications. Her paintings have graced the covers of many commercial publications and music CD's.
Her 'Ojito Wildeness' painting was selected to represent the Denver 10, (for their 'Wilderness Painted' show) in Southwest Art magazine and American Artist magazine, in October 2003. Evelyn is very interested in wilderness and water preservation, and has painted and donated much to these efforts. 

 Her work has been featured in many one-person shows, including the San Luis Museum and Cultural Center, in San Luis, Colorado. She was invited to paint their Official Sesquicentennial Painting in 2001. San Luis, the oldest town in Colorado, is her home town. Evelyn  has conducted Artists Workshops there for well over a decade. She has been included in many invitational shows including the Colorado State Capitol Building, the Colorado History Museum, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Museo De Las Americas, the Pueblo Fine Arts Center, and the San Luis Museum, etc. 

The International Museum of Contemporary Masters, selected her work for inclusion in their "International Salon 2003" show. She is a member of the Oil Painters Of America and the Portrait Institute.

Evelyn`s work is now shown at the following galleries: Nichol`s Taos Fine Art Gallery,in Toas, NM, KD Moore Gallery, Evergreen, CO, special invitationals at Abend Gallery, Denver, CO.; San Luis Museum, San Luis, CO.; Fired Works Gallery, Alamosa, CO., and Framed Image, Denver, CO.
