Working directly from the model at the Art Students League of Denver, I do many quick oil painting sketches like this. It helps me maintain freshness in my work. These sketches are rarely used for larger paintings; though they do give me informatin about each particular model. I may use this information later in a larger portrait or figurative painting of the same model.
